Foxconn is one of the major suppliers to Apple, whose iPhones and other products are assembled at Foxconn factories in China. Foxconn later said it face limited effect due to the shutdown of the above factories, as the production has been shifted elsewhere.
Closing Two Chinese Factories
Foxconn is one of the world’s largest electronics manufacturers and has plants set up worldwide to cater to the demands of several tech giants. One among them is Apple, whose iPhones launched every year are made by Foxconn at its Chinese plants. But as China has been going through the worst phase of COVID-19 since May 2020, Foxconn is forced to close two of its factories near Shanghai. The South China Morning Post reported that plants in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, are temporarily shut down due to a rise in COVID-19 cases. It also said that the operations at those factories had already been halted last Wednesday, and the workers were confined to their dorms. But to, Al Jazeera, a Foxconn spokesperson, said that the operations continue on Foxconn’s main campus. He also revealed that shutting down the two factories near Shanghai had limited effect, as they had already shifted the production elsewhere. He further said; The company has earlier shut down its Shenzhen-based manufacturing plant for the same reason. And the rest of the production plants from other manufacturers too are following the same suit due to the rise in COVID-19 cases in China.
